The Colonel
He stands straight and tall when you meet him.
He walks with the authority of a man on mission.
He can see right through you with those piercing blue eyes;
And he even knows what you are thinking.
This man has been able to evoke fear
in the hearts of men across the country.
The boardroom becomes quite
when he enters in silently and swiftly.
He never takes no for an answer and is always in charge.
He will tell you
that all a man really has is his word of honor.
With out your word you are nothing.
Who is this man?
This man is The Colonel.
His friends call him The Colonel;
Especially from those who have known him for a lifetime.
I’m surprised that they never called him The General.
Isn’t a General higher than a Colonel?
After all, he is always in Charge.
Don’t turn your back on him.
He doesn’t forget.
He has the mind of a steel trap.
He is always referred to as “The Colonel” in our conversation.
When I was a child, I remember the glare.
Never could you escape the glare of The Colonel.
Never look away.
Never move or squirm.
Always stand at attention.
Wait for his orders.
Beds made with military corners.
Quarters bouncing off the linen.
White glove inspections.
Who is this man?
This man is The Colonel.
He is generous.
He is loving.
He is caring.
He is giving.
He is intelligent.
He is handsome.
He is wise.
Who is this man?
This man is the Colonel
He is The Colonel to his friends
He is The Colonel to his Grandkids
He is The Colonel to his great Grandchildren.
He is The Colonel.
For Me,
I simply know him as Dad.
Your loving daughter,
Rosemary
